Is flying with CBD still an issue?

New TSA Regulations Shed Light

Flying on a commercial airline is a thrill for most passengers. However, for many people, flying may fill the passenger with anxiety. Medications, both prescribed and over-the-counter, help millions of passengers, but one new chemical that is helping passengers fly with ease is CBD oil.

CBD oil is an oil that comes from cannabidiol, a molecule found in cannabis. Unlike the psychoactive elements in cannabis like THC, CBD oil is found to have numerous medical benefits without any psychoactive side-effects. This includes, but is not limited too, easing aches and pain to potentially easing anxiety (Source: https://didcbdwork.com/for/anxiety/). Naturally, CBD oil is a hot product these days. Many consumers buy CBD to help them with their daily pain and psychological issues.

For example, the crowd sourcing website DidCBDWork.com highlight user experience with CBD oil as well as the latest medical research on CBD oil. Some of the testimony is eye-opening. According to the website, 92 percent of CBD oil users with ADHD found CBD oil to be helpful in their daily management. In addition, 82 percent of people suffering from anxiety also found CBD oil to be helpful, while 83 percent of people with arthritis reported the oil helped them. As one 2013 study by the University of Melbourne found, CBD is one of the most successful natural plants extracts that can help with anxiety.

One would think then that CBD oil is heavily used and brought on by passengers across the country. However, because of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations, it could be confusing for passengers if they can bring the oil on-board a plane. According to TSA rules, marijuana and some CBD oils are still illegal on a federal level. But, under the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, the TSA allows CBD oil with no more than 0.3 percent of THC in it can be allowed on a plane. In addition, if the CBD oil is directly approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), then it can be brought on the plane. The CBD oil must be on carry-on bags or checked bags so TSA officers can properly search and analyze the product. The TSA officer does have authority to determine if the CBD oil being brought on the carry-on bags and checked bags is considered illegal. The TSA officer can then contact local, state, or federal authorities.

Nevertheless, this is a huge change in TSA regulations. For millions of passengers, the ability to carry CBD oil onto their plane could ease their anxiety. In addition, bringing CBD oil on a passenger's trip can help these passengers with any number of ailments they suffer from. With the help of CBD oil, passengers traveling the world can enjoy their flight and their trip.
